Itinerary

Day 1: Lemosho Gate (2,100m) → Big Tree Camp (2,780m)

Distance: 7 km
Hiking Time: 3–4 hours
Elevation Gain: 680m
Habitat: Rainforest

The trek begins in lush rainforest, with a gentle ascent through towering trees and thick vegetation. The trail is quiet and remote, offering a peaceful introduction to the mountain. You may spot monkeys and forest birds along the way.

Day 2: Big Tree Camp (2,780m) → Shira 1 Camp (3,500m)

Distance: 8 km
Hiking Time: 5–6 hours
Elevation Gain: 720m
Habitat: Moorland

The forest gradually thins as you climb into the heath and moorland zone. The landscape opens up, revealing wide views of the Shira Plateau and Mount Meru in the distance.

Day 3: Shira 1 Camp (3,500m) → Shira 2 Camp (3,840m)

Distance: 7 km
Hiking Time: 3–4 hours
Elevation Gain: 340m
Habitat: Moorland

A gentle traverse across the Shira Plateau allows for excellent acclimatization. The terrain is relatively flat with expansive views of Kibo Peak and unique alpine vegetation.

Day 4: Shira 2 Camp (3,840m) → Lava Tower (4,630m) → Barranco Camp (3,900m)

Distance: 10 km
Hiking Time: 6–8 hours
Elevation Gain: 790m / Loss: 730m
Habitat: Alpine Desert → Moorland

A key acclimatization day. You climb high to Lava Tower before descending to Barranco Camp, following the “climb high, sleep low” principle. Altitude may be felt, but this day greatly improves summit success.

Day 5: Barranco Camp (3,900m) → Karanga Camp (3,995m)

Distance: 5 km
Hiking Time: 4–5 hours
Elevation Gain: 95m
Habitat: Alpine Moorland

The day begins with climbing the famous Barranco Wall, an enjoyable scramble with stunning views. The trail then crosses ridges and valleys to Karanga Camp.

Day 6: Karanga Camp (3,995m) → Barafu Camp (4,673m)

Distance: 4 km
Hiking Time: 4–5 hours
Elevation Gain: 678m
Habitat: Alpine Desert

The environment becomes barren and rocky as you approach Barafu Camp. After arrival, rest, hydrate, and prepare for the summit attempt later that night.

Day 7: Barafu Camp (4,673m) → Uhuru Peak (5,895m) → Mweka Camp (3,100m)

Distance: 15 km
Hiking Time: 12–14 hours
Elevation Gain: 1,222m
Habitat: Arctic → Rainforest

A midnight start leads to Stella Point and onward to Uhuru Peak, the highest point in Africa. After celebrating, you descend carefully to Mweka Camp for overnight rest.

Day 8: Mweka Camp (3,100m) → Mweka Gate (1,640m)

Distance: 10 km
Hiking Time: 3–4 hours
Elevation Loss: 1,460m
Habitat: Rainforest

A final descent through lush rainforest brings you to Mweka Gate, where you receive your summit certificates before transfer back to the hotel.
