Itinerary

Day 1: Lemosho Gate (2,100m) → Big Tree Camp (2,780m)

Distance: 7 km
Hiking Time: 3–4 hours

Habitat: Rainforest

The trek begins in dense rainforest with a gentle ascent through towering trees and rich vegetation. The quiet trail offers a relaxed and scenic start to the climb.

Day 2: Big Tree Camp (2,780m) → Shira 1 Camp (3,500m)

Distance: 8 km
Hiking Time: 5–6 hours
Elevation Gain: 720m
Habitat: Moorland

The forest thins as you climb into open heath and moorland. Views expand across the Shira Plateau, with Mount Meru visible on clear days.

Day 3: Shira 1 Camp (3,500m) → Shira 2 Camp (3,840m)

Elevation Gain: 340m
Habitat: Moorland

A gentle traverse across the Shira Plateau allows for excellent acclimatization. The landscape is wide and open with increasing views of Kibo Peak.

Day 4: Shira 2 Camp (3,840m) → Lava Tower (4,630m) → Moir Camp (4,200m)

A key acclimatization day. You climb to Lava Tower before descending to the remote Moir Camp, located far from the busy southern routes.

Day 5: Moir Camp (4,200m) → Buffalo Camp (4,020m)

Habitat: Alpine Desert

The trail circles the quiet northern slopes of Kilimanjaro, offering panoramic views toward Kenya. This section is rarely crowded and extremely scenic.

Day 6: Buffalo Camp (4,020m) → Third Cave Camp (3,870m)

Distance: 8 km
Hiking Time: 5–6 hours
Elevation Loss: 150m
Habitat: Alpine Desert

A gentle day across the northern side of the mountain. The gradual terrain supports acclimatization while maintaining steady progress.

Day 7: Third Cave Camp (3,870m) → School Hut (4,800m)

Distance: 5 km
Hiking Time: 4–5 hours
Elevation Gain: 930m
Habitat: Alpine Desert

The trail climbs steadily toward School Hut. After arrival, climbers rest, hydrate, and prepare for the summit attempt later that night.

Day 8: School Hut (4,800m) → Uhuru Peak (5,895m) → Mweka Camp (3,100m)

Distance: 15 km
Hiking Time: 12–14 hours
Elevation Gain: 1,095m
Habitat: Arctic → Rainforest

A midnight start leads to Gilman’s Point and onward to Uhuru Peak, the highest point in Africa. After celebrating, you descend carefully to Mweka Camp for overnight rest.

Day 9: Mweka Camp (3,100m) → Mweka Gate (1,640m)

Distance: 10 km
Hiking Time: 3–4 hours
Elevation Loss: 1,460m
Habitat: Rainforest

A final descent through lush rainforest leads to Mweka Gate, where summit certificates are issued before transfer back to the hotel.
